March 31, 2026 – The Oneida County Health Department (OCHD) is excited to join communities across the country in celebrating National Public Health Week (NPHW), held April 6–12, 2026. This year’s theme, “Ready. Set. Action!” encourages everyone to take small, meaningful steps toward building stronger, healthier communities.
What Is Public Health?
Public health is the science of protecting and improving the health of people and communities. It focuses on preventing illness before it happens, ensuring access to clean air and water, promoting healthy lifestyles, and preparing for emergencies. Public health works to make sure everyone has opportunities to be healthy.
Why It Matters
From assuring safe places to dine out, routine vaccinations, and nutrition programs to emergency response and health education, public health affects our lives every day. National Public Health Week is a time to recognize how these efforts have helped us live longer, safer, and healthier lives — and to honor the public health professionals who dedicate themselves to this vital work.
This Year’s Theme: Ready. Set. Action!
This year’s theme is a call to move from awareness to action. Whether it’s checking in on your neighbors, buying a radon or water test, or making healthy choices at home and school, everyone can make a difference. Small steps can lead to a better life. Together, we can create a healthier, more connected Oneida County.
